I took my unvaccinated one year old son to the doctor today because he was having bouts of pain and my husband noticed swollen glands. The doctor took a titer (which is more accurate since he hasn't been vaccinated) and I should get the result back soon.

Meanwhile, the baby is out of daycare which means I am out of school. There are still a lot of unanswered questions:
1) Will my two year old daughter get it? Or could she have it already?
2) Will myself and my husband, (both vaccinated) get it?
3) How long will this whole episode last? Unless my daughter displays symptoms soon, she may not have caught it yet, and when she does, it will be another two weeks until she's over it!

Anyway, I'll keep you posted, but if we have mumps, it will be mumps party at my house here in Brooklyn! (Any guests want to be invited?? ... )

I have no answers for your questions, but I am looking forward to knowing how everything turns out. Good luck and good health to all of you.

Since this is about illness rather than vaccines I'm moving to H&H.

I had mumps as a child...all I really remember is that it hurt to chew!!!
I think it's usually with older kids (like teens) and adults that you see more severe cases, but with young kids it's usually a pretty mild although a bit painful.
I would take lot's of SA and defintely give the kids and give them some vitamin A too.
It seems that in this recent outbrake in NY/NJ the vaccination rate is like 88% according to the CDC....
so I don't know too much about you guys getting it or not.

It's quite possible you will all get it. However you can certainly do things to make yourselves more comfortable! Mumps are out there right now and there are quite a few reported outbreaks. We use homeopathy and nutritional support and find it to be quite effective. Recently I used belladonna and parotidinum (mumps nosode) and the case was over within a week-presented Monday night and no symptoms left by Friday.
