In addition to wet cleaning and lead testing for baby and home, I would like to purchase a HEPA vacuum that meets the standard of not blowing dust back out of the machine and spreading it around the house. If anyone has had experience with this situation and gotten good information/advice about what particular products are best, PLEASE let me know. Thank you.

Are you looking for a vac for carpets or hardwood floors. Are you having an issue with lead?

Yes, I am looking for a vac for both carpets and hardwoods. We do not have an identified problem with lead, but it is an older house, there is chipping paint throughout, and we have had some work done lately.

we have a miele vac with a real hepa filter. I've been very happy with it and use it on hardwood and carpet. I don't have any experience with lead dust though.

I adore my Dyson. I previously had an Electrolux Oxygen which is "supposed" to be better b/c it has several different filters and a throw away sealed bag (expensive to keep buying) but it still smelled like "dust" when I vacuumed. The Dyson exhaust smells like completely fresh air. It does have to be emptied which I do outside into a bag and then wipe down the removable canister. No experience with lead though.
