Is this normal? His poop is dark dark green, blackish color sometimes. Could it be dairy related? He rarely drinks milk (except mama milk) but he loves cheese.....yesterday he ate a string cheese and today we had cheese sandwiches.......hmm.....someone told me blackish poop was a sign of a toxin in his body? We dont have it and we eat the same thing so I dont know what to think.

It can be caused by internal bleeding, which dairy can cause if there is an intolerance. Also, iron cause cause it.

Too much or just an increase in iron is one cause of dark poop.

Thank you!

He eats lots of fruit and he will eat green veggies but really that is his only source of iron, (plus the 4% in cereals and other foods)....oh and breastmilk too.....I dont give him vitamins and I dont take iron either.....I better figure this out....I am getting all freaked out each search I do makes it sound like it could be blood but it didnt look like blood.....and he has had this before and it went away and then came back and went away.....

I am going to cut out dairy and see if it gets better.

Ok, I think I figured it out.......could the extra Vit C I am giving him cause him to absorb too much iron? He is breastfed so 50-70% of the iron is absorbed already.......and then Vit C makes iron absorb better too, then on top of that he gets iron from food.......I wonder if thats it.......I see no other way he could possibly get too much iron. If anything I was worried he didnt get enough!!

My dd started on iron supplements and her poop is dark green as well. Vit. C does help with the absorption of iron. So I think you have found your cause.
