Five weeks ago (tomorrow), I took the kids swimming at a local pool. While walking from the tot pool to the wave pool, I put my foot down on drainage grate, and it gave way under my foot. I fell in up to my knee, which resulted in a large bruise down the inside of my calf and along the inside of my knee joint, plus two others on my shin and the front of my knee. (The bruises probably didn't look really, really bad to most eyes, but I'm one of those people who rarely visibly bruise at all, so it kind of freaked me out - it was dark purple in most places.) I also had abrasions with the shin bruise and on the front of my knee, as well as a couple bad scrapes on my ankle (back and outside). There were two very find scratches running along the meaty part of my calf, at the very edge of the brusing.

That's background. Everything's been healing up nicely and the visible bruising has been gone for a couple of weeks or so. My shin and the front of my knew are still a little tender, but nothing major. But, where I had the calf bruise, I now have a bunch of small, hard lumps, which hurt if pressure is applied (like when one of my kids climbs on my lap - if I'm sitting cross-legged, the lumps are facing up). As far as I can tell from google, they're hematomas. But...I'm getting conflicting advice about care. Some places say to exercise the muscle, to help speed the breakdown of the hematoma (I've been doing regular step workouts, so I'd say my calf muscles are getting exercised). Some say that activity will slow down the healing, and I should be resting it. And, a couple places said that complete healing will probably take about six months!

Does anyone here have experience with these, and how long did they take to heal?
