I am looking to supplement my baby with D3.  I noticed Carlson's no longer carries the DDrops anymore and have a new vitamin for babies.  I noticed the new vitamin has 400 iu of D3 as well as 1 iu of vitamin E.  Anyone know anything about vitamin E for an infant? My baby is only 7 weeks old and I was really only looking for a D3 supplement but is a supplement with D3 as well as E okay for a baby that age?

First, be sure you need to supplement  http://www.lalecheleague.org/llleaderweb/lv/lvaugsep03p75.html   Its the time of year that baby can get D from the sun so I stopped supplementing about a month ago.

I found these?  http://www.vitacost.com/carlson-for-kids-ddrops-liquid-vitamin-d3-400-iu-0-33-fl-oz  It doesnt say they contain E.   I actually got my little guy these: http://www.vitacost.com/vitacost-baby-ds-liquid-vitamin-d-drops-for-kids

I have no idea about the E, but I think that as long as mom is well-nourished, breastmilk needs no supplementation, except of course with D if it is winter.

Thank you! How old did you start supplementing your baby with D?  (I noticed you recently stopped because you can get sun exposure now.)  I saw the Carlson DDrops for kids but notice it says over 2 years of age; however, I guess it's safe for babies because it has the same dose of 400 iu per drop, right?

I started supplementing him at 2 months because thats when their D reserves from mom run out (read the first link I provided above).  I didnt see the over 2yrs old part but ya the dose is the same so I dont see why you couldnt give it to a baby...  But like I said I gave by baby the vitacost brand ones.

I believe that the sun exposure is the better route because thats where our bodies were meant to get D from.  We dont naturally eat sheep lanolin which is where they get the D3 from, so I prefer not to give anything like that if I dont have to.  Its naturally derived which is great, but there are more benefits of good old sun exposure, so thats the route I'm taking.  But whatever you do dont get the Enfamil D-drops or any other vitamin drops by Enfamil!  YUCK, made my DD puke and puke when I gave them to her as a baby, poor girl.  I finally stopped after like 2 months tho, thank goodness.  I didnt know any better with her, I've learned a lot since then!
