I see this question has been asked before. :) Hope you don't mind if I ask it again.
My six year old dd came down with an ear infection today (Monday) and we're leaving for a long-awaited vacation to Hawaii on Thursday. It'll only be a four hour flight but still, it's flying and she was up tonight crying in pain (a rice sock, heated onion compress and olive oil in the ear has helped - thanks to all of the advice on here). We have to fly because we have condo reservations and we're meeting family from across the states who are flying there too so I need to know what to do to make her as comfortable as possible.
I've read about the possibility of treating with antibiotics for 48 hours ahead of time - that's exactly how much time we have before the flight if we go to the doctor tomorrow. It'd be the first time in her life that she's ever had antibiotics but I'm tempted given the situation.
Or if I feed her nothing but chicken soup with lots of onion and garlic and keep up the other natural treatments could we knock it out within the next couple days?
I just would not want to risk blowing out her eardrum or even having her be in excruciating pain. What are my best options here?
