While I was pregnant with my daughter who is now 13 months old, I suffered from a lot of pelvic pain that based on descriptions I found after she was born sounds a lot like Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction. She was persistently posterior, and at birth she was both posterior and aysnclitic. I was induced at 41 and a half weeks, and I had a c-section after my cervix started swelling and even with the Pitocin up at full blast my contractions completely stopped.
We had a birth control failure while I was exhibiting signs of ovulation, so I'm naturally worried that we may have gotten pregnant. While I would have a c-section if it was definitely medically necessary (e.g. placenta previa), I definitely want to have a VBAC for any future children and I want to do everything possible to make sure I increase my chances of succeeding. With that said, I've read that chiropractic care can help with both positioning issues and with SPD. (And I have read somewhere that the two are often related.)As far as pelvic pain goes, the only thing that helped with my daughter for more than an hour or so was the massage I got about 6 weeks before she was born which helped for a couple of days. While I know the two aren't the same, I do think that since the massage helped a little that a chiropractor might be able to help a lot.
So here's my question, how many visits and how often would you suggest would be the minimum to actually help prenatally, and when to start. I've seen posted online that at least once a week or more for the entire pregnancy is ideal, but we just can't afford that. Our insurance (Tricare) only covers chiropractic if the care is received on-Base by the active duty member. So while my husband could get a referral to the Base chiropractors, I can't since I'm only a dependent. I'm a stay-at-home mom, so Tricare is really our only available insurance option. It looks like around here to see a civilian provider will cost about $80-100 per visit which is doable a few times, but 40+ weeks works out to way too much for our budget.
