My gyno just informed me that I have bacterial vaginosis. I am relieved to find this out since I have had lots of irritation and thought it was just due to dryness/breastfeeding. She wanted to prescribe abx for it, but I declined so she called in a rx for boric acid tablets. It looks as if this is a pretty standard natural treatment for BV, but what I'm wondering is why is it acceptable since boric acid is categorized as a poison and is toxic if ingested?
Has anyone had success with any natural treatments for BV? I'm sure I don't want to take abx, since I started getting irritated right after a course of abx for an ear infection and I'm sure that had something to do with it. I want to get this taken care of before another pregnancy since I am a pre-term labor risk (unrelated to BV) and I know it increases the chances.

If you google natural BV treatments a whole bunch of things pop up. There have also been several threads about it on Mothering. I'm not sure why boric acid is okay, but a lot of people swear by it. BV sucks and is super annyoing and can also be contributed to your diet. Diets containing processed foods, white flour and sugar make things down there go crazy. So if you eat that stuff, I would remove it and drink more water.
BV is something I've had issues with for about 3 years now, so if you have anymore questions you can PM me. :)
