I did a search in this forum and couldn't find any recent threads.
With all the talk and hype about West Nile, I'm wondering how best to support my children's immune systems, and mine. Is West Nile alike flu, in that we should boost Vit C, Vit D and avoid sugar to boost immune systems? Just curious as to everyone's take. Also, does anyone know if the deaths are actually caused by complications like pneumonia, the same as the flu?

Mild disease, generally called West Nile fever, may cause some or all of the following symptoms:
- Abdominal pain
- Lack of appetite
- Muscle aches
- Sore throat
- Swollen lymph nodes
These symptoms usually last for 3 - 6 days.
More severe forms of disease, which can be life threatening, may be called West Nile encephalitis or West Nile meningitis, depending on what part of the body is affected. The following symptoms can occur, and need prompt attention:
- Confusion or change in ability to think clearly
- Loss of consciousness or coma
- Muscle weakness
- Stiff neck
- Weakness of one arm or leg
According to the CDCs site it is mostly meningitis and encephalitis that caused the deaths.
I think your approach of just generelly boosting the immune system is the best you can do. Since it is a virus, there is no treatment for that available.
