Last weekend my 3 year old DS was waking up several times a night to pee.  It didn't hurt him to go, but sometimes he had a lot of urgency to get to the potty.  He was a little out of sorts also.  I suspected a bladder infection, so I took him to our naturopath on Tuesday.  She did a urine test with a test strip (chemstrip 10) and it came out clean.  She did suggest taking him to the family dr. for diabetes testing - which scared me.

So, the next day we got in at the family dr.  They did a urine test (this one was sent to a lab for analysis) and blood work for diabetes, thyroid, iron.

DS has seemed better the past couple days.  He had also had a bit of a cold, so I thought maybe we overreacted on thinking it was a uti and he was just off due to the cold.

So, tonight (Friday) the dr's office called saying that there is bacteria in the urine and they have sent in a prescription for Septra to the pharmacy.  I was not home for the call, my DH took it, and I don't know what showed up in the urine or if the blood test results were in.  The office is closed until Monday.

So - I need more opinions!!!  Does my son have a uti or not???  Treat him with antibiotics or not???  I really want to avoid antibiotics, and he does seem better...but, then again, these infections can get nasty if they spread, right?  Has anyone had experience with different tests turning out different results?  What should I trust?
