I know antibiotics aren't popular around here & I myself feel they are overused in dangerous ways. We avoid them as much as possible.

So I'm feeling a bit like a failure & a bad mother for starting DS on his 2nd round of antibiotics is as many months. First he had strep throat & now he has another form of strep, erysipelas.

DS is very healthy. I believe his immune system is actually quite strong. I feel actually 75% confident that he would have beat both of these infections on his own (he has acted "sick" for exactly 1/2 day throughout all this).

But the other 25%... Well, I really do not want to tempt fate & mess with a strep virus.

It'll be ok right? Right?

I'm giving him lots of probiotic (at least an hour apart from the antibiotic) & continuing with vits C & D. Anything else I should do to support his gut & immune system?

Mama to my little busy bee.

I dose the probiotics three hours after the antibiotic. I really think an hour is close enough that the antibiotic would still likely kill the probiotic. If you can get Florastor, it will survive the antibiotic and so dosing is easier. Other than that one I like Culturelle with antibiotics. You can do colonizing probiotics after he's done.

Antibiotics are over-used but that doesn't mean they aren't sometimes the right choice. I'd use them with strep too.
