My DD just started complaining of her neck hurting when she lifted her head up and I felt a pea sized lump under her chin, hard to the touch and it hurt.

What could it be?

So far I've given her everything in my arsenal and it's still there. She has no sore throat, just hurts to touch and lift her chin...allergies? Swollen gland?

What can I do for her?

Or is this a ped question?

Thanks!!

If you've tried all you can do at home and the lump persists, that's when I'd consult with your ped or family doc. Has she had a previous injury in that area? Scar tissue? I know my middle ds has a small similar sized lump under his chin, but it's from a previous injury that I hardly remember happening (but he does!) and he complains when he hits it just right again.

it's almost certainly a lymph node. Mine come up and rest on my jawline if I'm coming down with something. First time it was noticed, I was in second grade. Caused a major freak out, and multiple tests, including a full blood draw that I clearly remember.

yikes

I felt it this morning. It's softening up and getting smaller. I deal with Lyme disease and so I go to extremes thinking it's the worst.. DH says to give it a few more days until I freak out.. this is hard, but it is going away. Thanks for the response!

my DS gets these too - it's most certainly a lymph node. Im sure it will go away. She's probably fighting off something!
