Well, for a number of different reasons, I'm considering seeing a mental health professional of one sort of another - I just can't decide what sort. I definitely want the one-on-one counseling and to avoid the meds, so a psychiatrist is probably out. Does anyone know the pros/cons of a Licensed Clinical Social Worker )Psychiatric Social Work Professional) as opposed to the pros/cons of a PhD-Psychologist?

Appreciate the input if anyone has any...

For various reasons, I have seen one of each of them at least! The professional who really ended up helping me the most was a clinical psychologist.

Aside from some issues of my own, DH and I actually did some marriage counseling with him as well; and he was wonderful!

But really, you probably need to set up some sort of interview type meeting with them to see if they are a good fit for you. Personalities do make a huge difference when trying to work out issues.

Good luck!

I do not know what a Psychiatric Social Work Professional is. I am a social worker and have never heard that. I am predjudiced toward social workers and against LCPC- licensed clinical professional counselor. I have not had any good interactions or working relationships with the ones I had contact with. If you are planning to pay with insurance, make sure you find out who is accepted for their payment.

Psychologists are sometimes just testing agents. Make sure you check the credentials of anyone and ask how much actual clinical experience they have.
