I know I probably need to go to the doctor for this, but am scared to...

The last three months I have had my period for 10 days in a row with very heavy bleeding, cramping in between periods, and bleeding after intercourse. Does anyone have any idea what's going on? Should I call my doctor and try to get in right away? Any ideas/suggestions?

Are you on any sort of birth control? If not, I'd guess Fibroids.

Thanks. I'm not on birth control. I'll give my doctor a call today. Like I said, I know I should call, but I just wanted someone to tell me to do it, kwim? Kind of silly, but I *hate* going to the doctor, so for me to decide on my own that I need to is rare!

Thanks again.

My doctor won't see me until I have one more abnormal period! What an idiot. My milk supply is diminishing rather quicky too. I think this has to be something medical for that to be happening. Can fibroids cause that? What about thyroid problems?

That is truly insane. Before you do the obvious and switch, call back again and ask what reasoning (if any) there is behind waiting another month. Ask to speak to the doctor, leave a message and ask the Dr. to call you back. The only reason I would bother to pursue this is that it is sometimes hard to switch and be seen in a reasonable amount of time and they already have some history on you so you're not starting from zero.

Really, honestly, that blows my mind. What exactly is the difference between 3 and 4 months of abnormal bleeding? The only reasoning there is if you ignore it long enough it may go away. I'm sorry you're dealing with this.

fibroids are often associated with elevated estrogen levels, and I believe high estrogen levels can decrease milk supply (though I have really really high estrogen because of endo, and have had no problems with supply that I didn't cause to happen myself when given the bad advice to supplement with formula). If I were concerned about estrogen or thyroid problems, I'd go see a reproductive endocrinologist instead of a regular ob/gyn anyway.
