My cat just sliced Angelo's face open. I think the cat fell of the book shelve, lost her balance and landed on his face.

What should I do???? He is bleeding.....

I don't have a cat, but I found this:

When to Call Your Child's Doctor
Call your child's doctor whenever your child has swollen or painful lymph nodes in any area of the body. Also call if your child has been bitten or scratched by a cat and the wound does not seem to be healing, an area of redness around the wound keeps expanding for several days, or your child develops a fever that lasts for a few days after receiving the scratch or bite.

Here:
http://kidshealth.org/parent/infecti...t_scratch.html

I would say clean it as best you can and just watch it for infection...

Hugs, Mama!

Water, warm water, or warm, slightly salty water, or saline spray. No hydrogen peroxide. After cleaning the wound really well, use a bandaid to pull the edges together so they line up - ie, use the tape part like a strap across the wound. Press on the band aid with a gauze pad or clean napkin to slop the bleeding. If you can't get the edges together, or it doesn't stop bleeding, or it's on a part of his face that moves a lot, he'll need stitches. If he needs stitches, you should go sooner rather than later.

I gave him arnica orally and put some arnica gel on it.

Is that ok?

What can I do to help it not scar?

Arnica shouldn't be used for open wounds, calendula is good. Otherwise I would put some breast milk on it. We have 4 cats and we all get scratched from time to time, and the face sometimes, and we have no scars and no problems. Just put some breastmilk on it and try not to worry

It's pretty unlikely that it will scar badly - babies & toddlers heal sooooo well. Just put some nice breastmilk in it, watch for infection (redness, pus) and try to keep it clean. mama

About 2in on forehead to between eyebrows.

1 in on right side of nose.

puncture wound 1/2in under right eye

2 small scratches on right check....like normal kitty scratches....the others are deeper

I'm so sorry this happened! Ds got a good one about 1 yr ago above his lip. It bled out enough that I didn't worry so much about infection, but in retrospect I do wish I had taken him for stitches as he has a pronounced scar on his upper lip.

It is not bad enough for striches but I am still concerned that it may scar.

I'd take him to a doctor ASAP. And I'd get rid of the cat.

I am 99% sure she (the cat) fell and was trying to catch herself. She looked as scared as he did.

I am not familiar with herbal ointments, but what we recommend is Neosporin. It is petroleum based though and has topical antibiotics.

Clean with soap and water, and make sure you apply sunscreen. This is important to the healing process and will help prevent a discoloration of what little scar he might have.

My daughter was scratched years ago, and there isnt a scar per-se, but in "indent" of about 1/2 inch.

Pure real Aloe Vera will help it heal without scarring.

He is mad at me now.....I bandaided the 2in cut....pushed the sides together so that there was no gap (the gap isn't big...just a wider scratch....if that makes since)

Oh....and I poured breastmilk over it.

Re the arnica-
the only issue I know of putting it on an open wound is the stinging from the alcohol or witch hazel base.
