Hi,
I was inspired by the thread for mothers of type 1 diabetics to see if there are any other people here who have type 1 themselves. The message boards I've seen that are just for diabetics tend to have a very traditional medical approach, and while I appreciate that (I would be dead right now if it wasn't for hospitals and pharmaceutical companies), I would love to be able to talk to someone about the trickiness of adjusting insulin for nursing without having someone say "What?!? You're still nursing a one year old? Gross!" or ask if anyone has any exeperience with natural birthing as a diabetic without being burned at the stake. So I suppose I'll post this to see if there's any interest, and if there is I'll come back and post my story and a few things I'm curious about.
Hope to talk to you all soon,
Mady

Mady,
I can't help with any of the mothering things you need. I was dx'd 2 years ago with late onset type 1, and my youngest is 9.

I would love, however, to have a support forum for type 1's. Its a horrible, scary thing to be living with. Its pretty much under control now, but I still fear it.

I hope you find the answers you are looking for. BTW, breastfeeding a 1y/o isn't strange. I suckled a 2 y/o, my milk was gone by the time she was 10 months old (stress, I think), but she was allowed and encouraged to suckle at bed and naps, or any time she wanted. Try explaining that one!!!! People did not get it at all!!!!
