The "healing the gut" tribe thread is soooo active with questions and ongoing stories. I would love to hear from those who have had a lot of success on their journey. Could you share what you were trying to accomplish, how you did it, how long it took, how you are doing now? If that is too much I would love to hear just a snippet of your story. It seems there are many of us who are embarking on the journey or considering it. I thought it would be interesting to have a thread just for success stories.

Oh good!

Well let's see. Here's a rundown of the bad stuff:
http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=260393

My first round of healing was starting raw milk kefir last May. I saw significant help from that but not consistent or enough.

I started SCD fanatical Sept of last year after playing around with principles for a while. From the first week it was obvious it was the diet for me. No more gas/bloating. I could sleep thru the night. Anxiety calmed. More energy. It just got better and better.

My skin never breaks out now. I don't have hay fever anymore. No more bladder pain. I never ever get gas (meaning now I can digest my food), so no more IBS.

So several autoimmune conditions that mainstream medicine has nothing for ... GONE!

What else I used:
Coconut oil to cook food but didn't really pay attention to a daily amount or anything.

Cod liver oil. Bone broths. Raw milk yogurt (not really SCD b/c I didn't pasteurize it).

Fermented veggies later in diet when tolerated.

Soaked nuts later in diet, I couldn't digest whole nuts without soaking them.

Enzymes (especially when I could work up to using high proteases in between meals, I saw a jump in progress.)

JaneS - I have started the SCD to try to heal my dd's eczema. I see (from other threads) that you healed your ds's eczema this way - can you give me any idea about how long that took and what kind of progress/set-backs you had?

Also - what enzymes are you taking? I am up for anything that will speed healing (and I've experienced both die off and improvements in dd...although her skin has recently flared up again , so I'm convinced we're on the right track with the SCD).

Thanks!

Mommiska,

Actually it wasn't SCD that first healed DS's eczema, it was an Elimination Diet (cow dairy is big trigger but found out later he can do goat yogurt/butter) and a cod liver/flax oil combo with ND's advice, then moved to cod liver/evening primrose. And quercetin and probiotics.

Thanks Jane,

I've been on all kinds of elimination diets (to the point where there was very little left that I could eat!) and it has seemed to help at times, but then dd would flare up again. Very frustrating.

I am taking cod liver oil and evening primrose oil myself, along with a priobiotic capsule (I do think she reacts to dairy, so haven't tried making my own yoghurt yet). I've just bought baby probiotics for dd (she loves licking them off my finger, so that's easy to get into her). I'll have to add quercetin (never heard of it - off to do some research!).

Thanks again!
