My cousin's Dr. told her NOT to use the Hyland's teething tablets, as if has belladonna in it and he told her it's fatal and not safe for children. I've never heard that before. Can someone help me out here? I was really surprised to hear that!

That doctor is misinformed.

It is a powerful antispasmodic in intestinal colic and spasmodic asthma. Occasionally the leaves are employed as an ingredient of cigarettes for relieving the latter. It is well borne by children, and is given in large doses in whooping cough and false croup.

That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Add that to the lying pediatrician thread in the vax forum. http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=446739

Homeopathic remedies are so distilled that there are no side effects.

As a side note, I guess all three of my children should be dead, because I've used the teething tablets for years.

Whenever I think of people freaking about belladonna in teething tablets, I always think of how I almost died from too much H20 (I'm totally serious).

Everything in this world is toxic and poisonous in the appropriate amounts Obviously, I still drink water.

:

while belladonna CAN be fatal and is also an extremly powerful and disturbing disassociative/psychedelic if taken in the appropriate amounts, its so distilled in homeopathic remedies that a baby could eat the whole bottle of teething tablets and still not have any ill effects from it. as someone has already pointed it out it is also a powerful antispasmodic (some commercial perscription medications are actually made from one of the alkaloids, hyoscyamine) and in mideval times women used belladonna eyedrops for the dialating effect as it made thier pupils large and glassy which apparently was pretty hot stuff back then.
