DS had a sinus infection when he was 10 months old. We took him to the ped and he got on antibiotics. He seems to be developing another sinus infection (red, goopy, itchy eyes) and I don't want to put him on abx again if I can help it. He's been on them WAY more than I'd like the past two years. He weaned a few months ago, so I don't have breastmilk to put in them. Is there anything else I can do to get rid of this besides abx?

This usually indicates environmental or food allergies. Antibiotics can lead to both.

Check out Sodium Ascorbate thread to do high dosing of vitamin C.

Start high vitamin cod liver oil and probiotics.

You may want to read through this. You can order it off there too if you don't know where to get the SA. Most health food stores don't carry it for some reason?

I had his dad give him one chewable vitamin C tablet today - I usually give him a chunk off of one. Would that work?

Vita C will not work nearly as well as SA for some reason. But if that's all I had at home, I would give it for the time being.

See the dose in the link I provided and you can sort of gage how much you can give. But the dose is actually for the SA. ?

Believe me the Vita C alone won't do much. JMO

His dad is taking him to the ped today, so we'll see if it's actually a sinus infection.

They'll just give him abx. That will get rid of it - for a while.

Have you tried squirting a saline solution up his nose? When I was suffering from chronic sinus infections the ENT told me to squirt 30 cc of saline solution up my nose three times daily. I believe it was 2 teaspoons sea salt, 2 teaspoons baking soda to 2 cups warm water. Its gross and he'd hate it but it really works, it just chews away any infection.

good luck
Sarah

No it needs to be in large doses and chewable vitamin C (unless it's Hyland's sodium ascorbate which is buffered C) is BAD for the teeth, wears away at the enamel.

Well, according to the ped, it's not a sinus infection. So yay! No abx! He said it's just because DS is congested and that we shouldn't worry about it.
