I'm currently 34 weeks pregnant and one of my teeth is really bugging me with pain. I was told about 8 months ago that it needed to be crowned but that it probably didnt' need a root canal... yet. Well that was 8 months ago and now I'm pretty sure I'm at the root canal stage because it hurts so badly upon contact with food (warm, cold, neutral, doesn't matter).

So my question is, can I safely get a root canal while I'm pregnant? What precautions do I need to take? If I wait until the baby is born I fear I will delay getting the procedure for months and that will only make things unbearable in my mouth.

Help!

Have you done a search? Try pregnant and root canal or preg and dental work or something like that. If it seems too much to swim thru, just scroll till you find Smilemomma's posts. She gives the info you need there. I remember reading that numbing is ok, nitrous oxide should be avoided...especially in the 1st trimester & that the infection that could be there could be more of a problem than the dental work. Good luck!
