I know a family whose children had (maybe still have) whooping cough. It started sometime around the beginning of July. She told me they are no longer contagious, and seem fine for the most part-- although when they get hot or run around a lot, a couple of them still cough. So, my kids played with their kids yesterday, and I'm freaking out a little. My youngest child is right at 1 year old, which is supposed to be past the "danger" zone but it's still scary!

I wouldn't bet on it not being contagious at this point, but neither would I worry too much. You could start administering huigh doses of sodium ascorbate now and echinacea to boost their immune systems.

If all of the children have had the whoop part of the cough, they are no longer contagious. Pertussis is most contagious when the person doesn't know that the small dry cough is whooping cough - which is when the bacteria is multiplying and having a grand old party. Once the whooping cough sound is being made, the bacteria are dying off and the bacterial toxins are destroying the cilia.

The cilia is responsible for bring the gunk in the lungs out - but now that the cilia are destroyed the person must cough it out, until the cilia regrow - which takes 3 months to a year.

I'm pretty sure all of the kids had the "whooping" part at the beginning and towards the middle part of July over a period of 2-3 weeks.

I guess there's no need in stressing over it right now, but I was curious.
