My son told me last night that his "peanut" (penis) hurt when he peed. He had said that a few days before but when I asked him about it, he said it didn't really hurt. This morning when he peed I asked him if it hurt and he said no, but just now he said it did.

Could he have a UTI? Do little boys even get those? Would there be any other symptoms?

He had a mystery fever last week (up to 103 for four days) and I took him to the ped just to make sure it wasn't some kind of infection. They thought it was just a virus. The fever has been gone for a few days and he's been feeling fine.

I haven't called his doctor yet but I'm wondering if I should. What do you think? Is there anything else I should be doing?

Hiya,

Yup, although rare, UTIs can happen in boys. The usual symptoms are fever and irritability. My little one had a UTI at about 14 months. We went to the ER and the Dr said he just had a bug, but when we followed up with his pedi, she did a cath and found that he, indeed, had a UTI.

If you suspect this, I would get your son to his Dr asap. Not to freak you out, but my little one ended up having reflux in his ureters, which, when a UTI ocurs can cause harm to the kidney in very little time.

Good luck with this and I hope that he is feeling better soon. :

Thank you so much for your reply. I did take him to the ped and it wasn't a UTI; it was just a tiny cut on the tip of his penis that I didn't see!

Well, I am glad you figured out what it was and I hope he (and you!) are feeling better.
