Hi, we were just over at my parents' for Christmas with our 10mo baby and we just found out today that my sister (who was there at the same time) brought home mono from college. Can the baby get it from being around her the for a couple of days? Can I get it? Please advise. Thank you!!

I had mono a couple of years ago, and my cousin visited me a couple weeks before I was sick, and her baby, 5mo, had a cold afterward that the ped. said might have been baby mono, it's not nearly as severe. They didn't have the mono test done b/c it's so expensive. In pre-teens, it just looks like a cold. Did your sis kiss the baby a lot? My husband never got it. I had strep throat first that wouldn't go away.

Thank you for replying.
No, I didn't notice her kissing DD alot, she might've not kissed her at all.
Is kissing the only way to pass it around?

You're welcome. The things we worry about that never fazed us before, huh? I think it's primarily passed thru contact with saliva, hence called the "kissing disease", BUT the ONLY person I kissed/ate after was DH, and he didn't get it. : So I have NO IDEA where/how I got it. I know that doesn't really help. Some people, I read afterward, can be carriers and never show symptoms. Does your LO have any cold symptoms? It can incubate for 30-50 days. Did your sis have symptoms? Had she been tested positive for mono?

No, DD has no cold symptoms, knock on wood, but yeah, my sis has had symptoms for a while, she did get tested, that's how we found out, the results came back positive after we left on Christmas.
