DS has eczema, long story short he had a very mild case, got RSV, was briefly in the hospital and given a short mild stint of steroids they have fully worn off and his eczema EXPLODED! poor guy. it is not open or oozing and does not seem to bother him. The allopathic dr wants to give more steroids of course. We are not doing this. Someone suggested Neem oil so I got some (along with calendula oil and rescue remedy cream) and put it on DS after an oatmeal bath (which really helped BTW!). Smells different... then I got online and checked it out. It has a natural steroid in it, does it have the same side effects as the precription ones? How should I use this? thanks!

I'm absolutely no help at all, but my ds has eczema too and we use neem oil, neem soap, and neem spray.
We like it very much as it is a natural bug killer too.

Neem didnt help dd- but didnt make her flareups worse.

Natural steroid shouldnt be a problem- it just means that it has a chemical constituent while a synthetic steroid is made out to become that. DOes that make sense.

In India, babies are even made to ingest a drop of it to kill infections in the digestive tract- its one of the safest things out there.

What did help your DD? Glad to hear it's safe, how often did you use it? It seems to help DS so far, then I am also using a calendula/lanolin cream that I like. any suggestions? Oatmeal baths seem to help a lot too.

Neem oil I would put in her bathtub- (she was like 2mo old when the doc sd eczema,) after her bath, and keep her in for about 10 mins.
The one I got was thick and dark and of course neem is strong smelling- would leave oily marks on the tub, and stained it, so I stopped when I switched to regular tub.

Everyone is different and I'm glad the calendula/lanolin works for him- I tried a celendula extract which didnt- I think I have a list of a lot of things which didnt - :

After a year of trying a lot of things, I try to go natural as much as possible, I found a product in a holistic site and got a sample- it showed improvement enough to make me use it on a regular basis.

Its called Surestop for babies at www.katuri.com and I've stopped using the hydrocortisone(1% ) after that, using it instead on the flareups.- Hers was not as severe a case as many I'm hearing, but just bad enough to use the cort few times in a month.
Eventually I saw clear skin- and its been a year now and I saw only mild flareups this winter.
She can also handle a few products that she couldnt before- so maybe she is getting stronger.

I also give her Cod liver oil and Vit C on a regular basis and bathe her with a Marseilles soap with 72% olive oil, which used to be the only soap she could handle at one point of time.
