My 3 yr old has congenital hypothyroidism and is taking natural thyroid at the moment. Tonight, at bed time she complained that her tummy hurt, and when I asked her to show me where, she points to her chest. I told her that is her chest and showed her where her tummy was, to this she again pointed to her breastbone. She also said she had a headache.
Iasked her if she wanted to eat- no, throw up-no, go poop-no, if she felt like someone pressing on her chest-yes.
No fever, no coughing, runny nose but pretty stinky breath, though.
Then she said she had heartburn (I am 38 wks, and have it bad- so she might have got that idea from me.)
I gave her 1/2 of a tums and she said she felt fine afterwards- but this sort of bothers me. Should a 3 yr old have heartburn, or is this something else more serious?
Other than this- she is fine, active, lively and fun.
any thoughts?

My son has GERD and it can flare terribly when he lays down for bed at night. His first complaints are of neck and chest pain and he sometimes says "I have icky stuff in my mouth" if he's actually regurgitating. Probably based on my own experience, but my first thought was heartburn before I even got to that part of your post. Eliminating dairy is sometimes a big help, as well as avoiding a large meal right before bed. I'm sure there are a lot of other possible causes, but this is what I can offer. Hope you find the answers soon! It's so hard when our little ones are distressed and we don't know why!

It does sound like heartburn and after she had the tums, she said she felt better.
She is dairy and gluten free- but drinks lots of juice- maybe she had too much. It hasn't happened since.
Thanks for your input!!!!
