I am 8 weeks postpartum today, and I am still bleeding, bright red, and there is a foul smell. Not too heavy, although I may have a small gush from time to time. I am really concerned about the possibilty of having to have a D&C. I am planning on calling my midwife tomorrow, but really need some support today.

Anyone else experience this? What was the result?

Thanks,
Kristi

I've not experienced this, but have had a D&C in the past. Although it seems scary, it is outpatient treatment and isn't as horrible as I had thought.

Thank you Wildflower18, I appreciate your kind words I was reading about the procedure for a D&C, and it sounds rather scarey. I am also nursing, and am concerned about needing to change that routine too. I know I need to wait and see what the Doc's say first.

Thank you again.

A friend of mine had this and unfortunatly it was some retained placentia causing an infection. She did need a D&C. A D&C really isn't that horrible - it is done under a general anethetic but is very safe - and very common procedure. Let them know that you are nursing and they should accomidate you as far as BF pre and post surgury and with the meds they give you. Really they should give you all the considerations that they give a new mother post c/s. (The amount of considerations and how much you have to bug them may vary depending on the hospital but my hospital is great about this kind of stuff)
I had a D&C done after a m/c and they wanted to keep me overnight because ofr some prior hemmoraging and they where very thoughful and put me up in the womans sugical unit instead of the delivery and PP unit where most gyne patients go.
