I am a vegetarian planning to get pregnant this spring and am looking for some suggestions for good books on health for the months/year prior to getting pregnant. Diet/nutritional information, recipes, etc.
Thanks!

You may want to check out the book Enhancing Fertility Naturally: Holistic Therapies For a Successful Pregnancy by Nicky Wesson. It has sections on diet and supplements, etc. Good luck!

Mindfully mothering SIX kids (ages 5, 6, 8, 9, 11 & 11) in a small house with a lot of love.

Check out the vegetarian resource group (www.vrg.org).

They have lots of good books and are generaly well informed about vegetarian issues.

Good Luck!

Don't forget to start taking folic acid supplements now if you're planning on getting pregnant!

Thank you all for the suggestions. Is it necessary for me to take folic acid supplements if I've already started to take prenatal vitamins?

Just check to see if there is folic acid in the vitamins you are already taking.

I believe it is recommended to have 400 microgram per day, beginning at least one month before conception and continuing through the first trimester. You may want to check with your Dr or midwife to confirm that amount.

Congratulations!

Thank you all for the suggestions. I just started taking Solgar Prenatals which have 800 mcg of Folic Acid, so I assume I'm all covered. I appreciate the input! I've read so much over the years about prenatal suggestions but it's so hard for me to recall it all now that I can put it to good use. Typical!

Thanks again
Katy

Good Luck!
