The leaves of holy basil (tulsi) are considered beneficial in the prevention of malaria. I wouldn't hesitate to take it myself - but don't honestly know about giving it to wee ones.
I always carry Kiddieboost w/ us when we travel - works great for us.

I was reading recently that cinnamon was useful in treating malaria. Don't know about prevention though.
Grapefruit is one of the most effective home remedies for malaria. It should be taken daily. It contains a natural quinine-like substance which can be extracted from the fruit by boiling a quarter of a grapefruit and straining its pulp.

Good luck!
