My son had a few days of 101-102 fever, which stopped, but now he has a red rash only on his stomach, back (including rear end), and head. No trace of it on arms or legs.

It seems to be itchy, he rubs his head a lot.

It is not chicken pox. It is a flat rash, but slightly rough. He also has a runny nose and is fussier than he normally is. His fever has not returned.

Is there anything going around that sounds similar? I kind of wondered if it was measles, but it isn't all over, and when I had the measles (I got them even though fully vaccinated, in high school), I had a much higher fever the entire time I had a rash, so I don't think it could be measles. Plus, it isn't all over him.

Anyone have any ideas?

Sounds to me like Roseola. The key dx factor is that the fever goes away and a rash develops after. My DS had this earlier this summer around 16 mos. It's nothing to worry about and will go away easily enough.

My LOs always seem to get weird rashes- I never know if it's something to worry about. I was searching for info awhile back and found this Dr. Sears website on rashes:

http://www.askdrsears.com/html/8/T082900.asp

I found it helpful to r/o anything serious! The PP mentioned Roseola- in this info it says: Dr. Sears Clue: Roseola is about the only virus in which the rash appears after the fever breaks.

HTH!
