I had a few stitches after birthing my son just over four weeks ago, three on my perineum and one just inside my vagina (what my MW called a 'blanket stitch' though I'm not sure what that means). They healed up well and it took about three weeks for the ones on my perineum to dissolve or fall out. However, the one just inside is still there and even with some firm but gentle tugging the string is not coming out. I'm getting worried about infection from it being there for so long. Should I be concerned or see a doctor to have it removed? Should I try to cut it out myself?

I had stitches in the same place, and mine did not dissolve until about 6 or 7 weeks postpartum. I was a little nervous too at the time, but I just waited and they eventually dissolved, no infection or anything. If you want reassurance, you could call the dr. and ask if that is normal.

Thank you both, that's reassuring. I'll just wait then and mention it at my 6 week check if the last one isn't gone by then.
