Yesterday DS (2.5y/o) started having a cough. Through the night, DD (almost 6wks) did too! It is so sad to hear her cough! :-( It's not just a mild
cough but does indeed sound chesty. The coughs came out of nowhere -
no other symptoms.

I can't find anything on Dr Sears' site specifically about newborns
with coughs and "when to worry"/when to take them to the ped. But Dr
Greene's site says that coughing by a newborn should be addressed,
unlike sneezing which is normal. Other sites also say that for babies
under 4 mos coughing should be seen by a Dr because it means they are
sick and could have difficulty breathing. Right now Jenna is breathing
fine, of course I Don't want it to get to the point where she isn't
breathing well. I still remember well Jeremiah's hospital stay at 10mos
old due to respiratory distress.

Like many of us though, I don't like to rush off to the Dr if I don't
have to. But DD is so little! I'm not so worried about DS
because he's older - but DD is just 5.5wks. Not sure what to do...

I'm going to make our bathroom into a steam room several times today.

Any other insight mamas? Go to the Dr or wait it out a bit?

With such a tiny baby in the house, I would contact your HCP.
