My platelets are continuing to fall (just a tiny bit more - from 87 to 83 today), so we're going to try some additional treatments. If the numbers don't stay above 80, I'll probably risk out of my home birth. I'm totally bummed, but hoping that the treatments will work. If not, at least I have hospital midwives that I trust to help me have the birth experience I want.

Le sigh.

Keep your fingers crossed and give me good platelet vibes!

Um, I am a little embarrassed that I don't know! They've been doing blood panels... What would the liver enzyme test be called?

They do pee tests... doesn't that test the liver b/c of protein spilling?

So far as I know I don't have any other indications of HELLP besides the LP.

Protein spills are usually a function of the kidneys. Blood panels are vague because they can cover whatever the doc wants, they're probably doing platelets and CBC. I'd definitely ask the doctor about the liver panel and your blood pressure.

: Here's to an abundant supply of platelets for you!

I sure hope that you are able to have the homebirth that you want. (But I'm glad to hear that you have a good hospital plan if you need it!)

Well I called the dr's office today b/c they were going to review my chart at their weekly meeting (w/ all the drs and midwives). Plus I wanted to ask them about the PUPPS. I spoke w/ the nurse and expressed my concern about liver enzymes w/ the PUPPS and the low platelets - that it could be an indication of HELLP.

Anyway, they called back and I'm going in tomorrow for another blood panel to include the liver panel. Hopefully it'll look ok.

My mw said my platelets were a little low at the last visit and she told me to eat watermelon. So maybe you could try that.

Good Luck.
