Not getting one here. I never did with the last two either. I don't see the point. Also my mom is a nurse and she doesn't even get the flu shot b/c she doesn't think it is right.

I've never gotten one before, and I was surprised to hear that they're recommended for pregnant women. Could anybody help me out here and explain to me what could happen to my child if I got the flu while pregnant? I think I normally get it, but it's never serious enough that I go to the doctor to even confirm that it's the flu.

Thanks for the info, Devaskyla. My husband will be pleased to hear that. He's really against the vaccine because it hasn't been around long enough to know what long term effects there are. Schizophrenia does run in my family, though (at least when coupled with heavy drug use), so maybe I should be more careful than normal about not getting sick.

HELLLL NOOO. We are pretty anti - vax here.

Never have, never will. Not that this means a whole lot, but I found it also interesting that every single person I knew that got the flu shot last year - got the flu within weeks, many showing symptoms within days actually. I did not know anyone who didn't get the flu shot to come down with the flu AT ALL. Strange, huh?

Oh, and to the poster who said what should I do when I get the flu every year? One, take care of your body's immune system very carefully. Read up on these boards if you need more ideas on how, and go to your local natural food store and ask for more suggestions, etc. Trust in your body's ability to prevent and fight if given the chance to. That is a much better way to protect your body from the flu virus and/or any other illness including the various toxins and ethically questionable substances that vaccines contain.

No shot for me thanks, I'm not a fan. I've only ever had one in my life and that was because ds was a preemie and we were worried about RSV. My mum said she got a flu jab once and had the worst flu of her life!

I focus on staying healthy and preventing the illness if possible.

I got the flu when I was preg with my second and ended up in the hospital so it was pretty bad. I also have a lower than normal immune system because of some meds I am on and I get everything I've been sick currently with a virus, then some really really bad cold/upper resp. infection for going on over three weeks. I dont know if I will get it or not yet but I might end up needing to just to be on the safe side.

Well, I think in a case of a somewhat compromised immune system, it could be understandable. But I would NEVER get the shot while pregnant, personally, and for myself, I would never get it at all. It only protects against a small percentage of flu types, and in my opinion is one of the biggest hoaxes yet perpetrated on the public by the damned vaccine companies. The flu is not dangerous, normally, unless you have serious health issues already.

No flu shot here, and no vaxes either. We have four kids who are out and about all the time. They are ages 2-10. In ten years, none of us has ever had the flu. I'm beginning to think it doesn't exist, LOL! I've had bronchitis and pneumonia, and the kids have had colds and even rotavirus (now THAT is dangerous!), but no flu. I think if we got flu shots, we would all be sick as dogs. I also think that stuff REALLY beats up the immune system. It is not good.

I'm going to be the odd one out here. Yes I plan on getting one. I get one ever year and this year will be no different. I do it because I work in hospitals and I am at a higher exposure rate than others.
