We've been expecting this for a few years, and this year it's official. My dh works at a hospital, and is required to get the flu shot this year if he wants to stay employed. :(  We are pissed beyond words at this, but there doesn't seem to be anything we can do about it. Is there anything he can do/take before and/or after the shot to help his body heal from it and minimize the effects? Is there any chance of him passing the flu to the rest of us because of the shot?

Thanks for any advice. :)

What state are you in?  In Texas there are ways around these sorts of things....even if they make it awfully hard to find out how.

That said, there are homeopathics that help to detox afterward, as well as castor oil packs at the site of the injection..  Good luck!

This sucks. Even though you can usually get out of vaccinating for home or school, I think the courts are siding with employers on this get a shot or you're fired- at least in non-union states.

Really the only way to get flu from the flu vaccine is if you get the weakened/live version which is the flu mist. The shots only contain the dead virus, so although it can make the person who got the shot feel the symptoms of the flu sometimes, they can't pass the virus to anyone.

Thanks so much for the info! We are in Louisiana, and he is an employee of the state with the LSU Hospitals system.

He can at least request a thimerosal free flu shot. Yes, the thimerosal is still in the flu shots.. I know.. unbelievable.eyesroll.gif

I have never been in a position as an adult to have to have a vaccine.. but if I were I would do some gentle detox. This is my favorite recipe.

Cilantro Pesto
1 clove of garlic
1/2 cup of almonds, cashews, or other nuts
1 cup packed fresh cilantro leaves
2 tablespoons lemon juice
6 tablespoons olive oil

The cilantro is to help move the heavy stuff out of your body. Eat a couple of spoonfuls a day for two weeks.
