I found this thread very interesting, lots of discussion and lots of links
They address how vax are evaluated for safety, placebo use and why "true" placebo can not be used, the FDA's role in the process, etc.
I just finished reading through it and plan on going through to look at a lot of the links presented within. I'm not suggesting it be read for the sole purpose of making up someone's decision on one thread, but as a starting point to find info.
(disclosure - the thread is from 2006-2007 and has a pretty strong anti-vax vibe)
ETA: Maybe if anyone else knows about some great old MDC threads (full of info/links), we could make a list?
Thanks for posting - yes a great thread. You know who Momtezuma Tautara is (was) don't you?
There are alot of great old threads with great info archived here - thank God we still have access to them!

Very cool, thanks for posting! I don't even know where to start :)
As a side note, while skimming some of these and other threads in the forum I'm struck by the unfortunate need to continually rehash certain basic arguments, and how that keeps dragging the discussion backward. This is especially frustrating in the I'm Not Vaccinating forum, where one would hope (and the rules suggest) a discussion would progress without ardent pro-vaccinators interjecting.
Jenny, - yeah I am seeing the same thing, rehashing basic arguments/common misunderstandings. But there are always new people coming to the boards... I don't know if there is a way around that! I am new myself and have those common questions too! I agree, it sets conversation back everytime is has to be argued that ingested aluminum is not the same as injected, or about how vaccines are tested, or that pertussis vax does not stop transmission, or effectiveness of flu vax, etc... I guess that's why it's good to read some old threads!!!
Emmy, thanks for posting all those links. Most of them look good, but PLEASE don't use or quote whale.to--it's a very controversial site that posts anti-semitic and Holocaust-denial garbage. Even though their vaccine info is ok, quoting whale.to does not bolster our argument, but drags it down, because the "other" side only has to say, "Oh, look, you're quoting a Holocaust-denial site, that means you must believe that the Holocaust didn't really happen, therefore your view on vaccines is equally insane."
If I were you, I'd copy the vaccine info on whale.to so you have it, and then do some internet digging and find the same studies and quotes SOMEWHERE ELSE. And then never click on whale.to again, because every click on it supports the racism and hatred.
I've been told that there are similar issues with rense.com as well. :(
Luckily, there are enough VALID sources of info that we don't need to resort to racists and haters.
