ok, I'll try to make a long story short...My child is 18 mo and will be going to a well-child dr. visit very soon. I have chosen to not have her get the MMR yet. She has received all other vaxes so far (EXCEPT for and Flu vax). I have the school (she attends 1/wk) and I'm going to have the dr. office people shoving them down my throat when I take her next. I have started researching all the info I can find on vaccines - and I have yet to be convinced of their benefits.

Here's my dilemma - I have her in a baptist church school (the only I could afford to send her to - I do not attend church and although I am spiritual - don't affiliate with any organized religion) I really don't want to be put in a position where I will have to lie in order to get her exempt. I am in Georgia - can you please give me any links that with help?

Please and thanks!

Immunization Guidelines for Child Care Facility Operators and School Personnel (page 2)

"If there is a religious exemption, the parent/guardian must give the facility/school a signed and dated notarized statement or affidavit stating that immunizations are against their religious beliefs. This affidavit should be filed instead of the Certificate of Immunization. The affidavit does not expire."

Here is a great blog post addressing the ethical side of your dilemma:

If proceeding with the vax schedule goes against your conscience, I'd argue that you have a religious belief, especially if you think your conscience comes from any sort of higher power.

“It is simply no longer possible to believe much of the clinical research that is published, or to rely on the judgment of trusted physicians or authoritative medical guidelines.” - Marcia Angell, M.D., former NEJM Editor
