I did not find this article well cited, but it might point you to avenues for further research:

This series of articles by Hilary Butler is probably the best I have read on the subject, her articles are always well referenced:

Part 1: Vaccines and neonatal immune development

Part 2: How a baby fights infection and develops the immune system

Part 3: Can vaccines become cranial and immunological cluster bombs?

This is also a great article on how vaccines harm the immune system:

Vaccines as 'Cluster Bombs'

If you want the opposite view to all those resources, there's an article that argues that the immunizations children recieve have neglibile effect compared to their daily exposure to toxins here

http://www.quackwatch.com/03HealthPromotion/immu/too_many.html

Some people may not like that site which is a skeptical blog (and has ties to "Science Based Medicine" which I know many object to), so I looked for the info elsewhere as well.

Here it is on a site of Vaccination information for EU residents:

http://www.vaccinestoday.eu/facts/10-can-giving-several-vaccines-overwhelm-a-child’s-immune-system/

And on the British Columbia immunization website: http://immunizebc.ca/questions-answer/will-multiple-injections-overwhelm-my-babys-immune-system

It's also one of 6 myths about vaccination which is addressed in this article at the Conversation: https://theconversation.com/six-myths-about-vaccination-and-why-theyre-wrong-13556

That last article linked is overly simplistic and full of factual errors.

I thought this was a good read.  Off to find the study.

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/health/2011/11/29/flu-shots-may-build-fewer-antibodies-in-kids/

Here:

http://jvi.asm.org/content/85/22/11995.abstract

The sample small size; it would be interesting to see if the results have been reproduced in a larger size.

My 2 cents - every year the flu goes around.  Every year people get vaccinated against it.  Every year those who were vaccinated seem to be more likely to come down with something than who did not bother with the vaccine.  I tend to think the flu shot, at least temporarily, supresses immunity.

I would also look into Th1 and Th2 issues and the immune system.
