Michigan mom who lost her daughter to a deadly meningitis infection not covered by U.S. vaccines says she’ll take a busload of kids to Canada this weekend to make sure they get the shots that could save their lives.

Who is responsible for an adverse reaction?

“I believe that every person should be vaccinated with both vaccines starting at 2 months of age,” she said.  Alicia Stillman said she’s determined to ensure that others don’t suffer the loss her family has endured.

The flip side? What about families who have lost children right after being administered a vaccine? (any vaccine)

I don't know what I think about this.

On one hand I support a parents right to get the medications (including vaccines) they want for their children…on the other hand, I have to wonder why the vaccine is in Canada and not in the USA.  Was it fast tracked here? What is up?

There is a battle of two wolves inside us.  One is good and the other is evil.  The wolf that wins is the one you feed.

Book and herb loving mama to 1 preteen and 2 teens (when did that happen?).  We travel, go to school, homeschool, live rurally, eat our veggies, spend too much time...

It is also going to become available in the UK as well.  But both Canada and the UK have MenC on the schedule for young babes and the USA not until 11 or 12---So very different policy.  That;s one of the confounding things about vaccines.  Up to date means different things depending what country you live in....

I think Canada is somewhat becoming land of the guinea pigs as far as pharmaceutical companies are concerned.  I think the H1N1 vaccine that they used here in 2009 had a new adjuvant that was not used in the vaccine for the USA.

I used to live in a city close to the Can/US border.  There used to be busloads (I'm not exaggerating) of American seniors showing up at the Medicentre to see a doc to write them up scripts.  Canadian patients got po'd  at having to wait even longer to see our Canadian taxpayer funded doctors.  So a couple of the doctors opened up a clinic specifically to see American patients.  Not sure how much taxpayer money was spent on that.  I sure hope the taxpayer is not footing the bill for these busloads.

Releasing the vax first in Canada could be just to drive up consumer demand in the USA. shrug.gif
