I do not want to give 2 yr old ds the mmr.

But it is required by state law for him to go to pre-school.

The only exemptions available are medical.. which my ped will not sign... and religious.. and I don't think I have any justification for that. I don't think I can prove it conflicts with Unitarianism. Though I guess I could ask around my church. Still, I have gotten some other vaccines.. so how can I justify not getting THIS one on a religious basis?

Plus, I am afraid of "red-flagging" us by having an exemption on file. MDC has made me absolutely TERRIFIED of cps.. of someone calling cps on us. I never worried about it before, but this place has made it my worst nightmare now. I am afraid if I draw attention to us by getting an exemption.. expecially a fake religious one.. cps is going to come and take my child away.

But I don't want to get this shot. Everything in me says not to get it.
I don't know what to do.

If you feel so strongly against it, DO NOT DO IT.
We live in a state where religious is the only exemption and I wrote to the kids school that my philosophical beliefs were what i was going to use as my religious exemption. I think that you do not need church affiliation to get this one to pass.
if you believe strongly enough in something you really have all rights to stand by it.
good luck mama- maria

just a question for you... does the unitarian church condone abortion? use of fetal tissue?

The MMR uses the Wistar fetal cell line in the manufacture. You have every right to claim the religious exemption if your faith opposes the use of fetal tissue and/or abortion.

Nope.. Unitarians are pro-choice. Though the idea of fetal tissue in there makes me want to vomit. Maybe my Minister would just support ME in this? I could ask anyway.

Georgia is not the most progressive state on this issue.
On any issue for that matter.

I agree with the other ladies if you gut says don't do it PLEASE don't do it. I just posted a thread about my sons having reactions to vaccines....I really believe that mothers intuition needs to be listened too...could someone give me a link talking about fetal tissue in the MMR I was totally unaware of that and would like some more information....that makes me sick to my stomach....

Look at it like this: Do you feel this may harm your child? Does your faith and/or G-dteach you to harm your child? No? Then it is against your "religion". Few "religions"openly say "no vaccines"-it's all in interpretation.

Every cell in my body tells me NOT to inject this into my ds.
I just have this premonition something awful will happen if I do.
I am going to ask my Minister this Sunday.
I will say I oppose this particular shot.. I will use the fetal tissue thing if I have to..

I will get the ped to certify the other immunizations he has had.. and bundle them together with the exemption I can hopefully get for mmr... and hope it will fly.. and hope cps doesn't raid my house.

I wonder if a Chiro or Homeopath can sign off on a medical exemption in GA.. cause they would do it. The Homeopath is an MD! Maybe that would work? I am NOT getting him this shot, you all have helped me strengthen my resolve.

We are also not doing varicella or hep b.. but those aren't REQUIRED by law here, so it won't be an issue.

Do you think having an exemption is a "red flag" for cps?
I mean, it is sanctioned by the state.. so would they come after you for having one???

According to this you just write a note and have it notarized. I had my form for my state notarized at the bank. You can either use religious exemptions to not do any shots or those containing the fetal cells (CP, MMR, and Hep A).

I think that might be out of date for Georgia.
Other sites say you do need a Dr. or religious leader to sign off on it.

Under Chapter 5, Requirements, it simply states the letter just needs to be notarized for a religious exemption. If they give you any grief, just have a copy of this to show them exactly what the State of GA has in writing.

Your statement for religious exemption does NOT need to state your reasons that it is against your religion.

Keep your statement short and simple. Quote the GA law. If they ask for a signed note from your minister, ask for this request to be given to you in writing.
Read How to Legally Avoid Unwanted Immunizations All Kinds.

Here's a sample:
http://www.mothering.com/discussions...threadid=59461

And I agree with the others: don't get this vax. Don't be scared of CPS. Just CYA. You are not doing anything illegal.

If you have a feeling not to get it, then don't. Always listen to your gut!!! Good luck with the exemption!

Listen to your mommy instincts. Don't do it!!

MMR to me is one of the worst (I think they all stink), and it is a live virus.

Don't worry about CPS. There is nothing wrong with protecting your baby's health.

I actually would not talk to your minister....vaxes don't have to be against his or her beliefs, they have to be against yours! And even within the same church or religious groups, different people can hold different beliefs and they are equally valid as bona fide religious beliefs.

I would do the absolute minimum necessary - i.e. don't volunteer more information than you have to, especially about why you might have gotten certain vaxes but you don't want this one. The less you say, the better. I think it's best just to use the language of the statutory exemption - e.g., "I certify that vaccinations are against my deeply held religious beliefs" or whatever the language says.

FWIW, I signed the religious exemption form on my son's daycare health form and no one has said word one to me about it (I'm in Maryland). If "vax-preventable" diseases go around daycare, I have to keep him home, but whatever.

I do not think that CPS is going to do anything for you not doing this one shot that you aren't comfortable with. I work at WIC and they know we don't vax and nobody's given us any trouble.
