We don't do the rubella for religious reasons, but have given the measles and mumps seperately. For my son, they had no problem finding the two seperate vaccines, but they say they can't get them for Katie Grace. Any ideas where these might be?

We don't plan to do any, but I have been told that you can get them here:

Hopewell Pharmacy, 800-792-6670 they are $30 per vial.
just fax them an rx and they overnight the vials to your dr

HTH and let me know if it works for you!

We did separate mumps and rubella vaccines for my younger dd within the past year and a half. Ped's office now says they can get measles-only vax only in a 10-dose package, about $140.

I faxed my rx to Hopewell just today, and they called back to say they can no longer get measles-only vax, that it is being sold only to doctors' offices.

I'm going to try again with the ped's office. If they can order the 10-dose package, I don't see why they can't order a single dose, particularly if I am willing to pay for it OOP if necessary.

I may just not push it. I'm just not all that invested in them getting two more shots, and the doc doesn't seem concerned enough to pursue it either...

Here's an update, in case anyone is interested in measles-only vaccine.

I called the ped's office this morning, and they insisted they can get Attenuvax only in 10-dose packages. Called CDC, then Merck, and Merck confirmed that it IS available in single-dose form. All the ped's office has to do is call and order it.

Yes, I called the ped's office and told them. They are supposed to be ordering it for me. I offered to pay up front, though. I know that is the problem sometimes: the doctors' offices worry that they will special order something and no one will use it/pay for it.

Got a call from the ped's office today...

Yes, Merck sells single doses of Attenuvax, but only in packages of 10 single doses. The person I spoke with is *sure* about this--she said that she made several calls, including having their Merck sales rep call the "higher ups" at the company. I am stuck buying 10 doses when I only need one.

That didn't sound quite so bad when I considered that we'd need measles vax again when dd is supposed to have her second MMR (and the unopened packages will keep that long), but she says I'd have the same problem trying to get mumps and rubella vaxes separately.

Just in case anyone is following this saga ...

I finally located a doctor (not TOO far away--about an hour) who does travel immunizations, and they do measles-only shots. I will be able to get the vaccine for a fraction of what my ped's office was going to charge me.

Thanks, Anna!

I would never have thought of the travel immunization angle. I got the doctor's name from a county health department.

I wanted to pass all this along in case anyone else is looking for separate m, m and r vaccines.
