Pertussis booster now recommended for pre-teens/teens. - Mothering Forums

I heard on NPR this (early) afternoon that there is now a recommendation for children of these ages to have a booster. There have been some outbreaks of pertussis/whooping cough in these ages in the past few years, because (apparently) the immunity gained during infant vax's wears off.

Now, it was my understanding, as of last year, that there was no pertussis vax that was safe/recommended for pre-teens/teens or adults. I wonder what's going on now....

Note: I have no intention of vaxing my boys for anything at this point, but I was wondering if anyone out there knew more about this subject than I do.
