Chicken pox went sweeping through my kids' preschool last winter and spring with 13 kids and 3 adults getting it, including DD1 and me, both of us vaccinated. Most of the kids in the school were vaxed, so I guess that vax doesn't work too well. I never had it as a kid so got vaxed as an adult. Both DD1 and I got most of the pox on, um, the tush, and I'm wondering if this is common, to develop chicken pox in an atypical location, specifically around the tailbone (since chx apparently travels in the nervous system, that's what I hear).

Anyone else vaccinated against chicken pox who got it? Where did you or your kid get it? On the chest, belly, and back as is typical, or on the tush? Other?

I think I read on the CDC website that the vaccine is only 70% effective, and that many people who get it will still get a mild case. That is a pretty normal location for the pox to bug you from my understanding. Hmmm I think there is something you can put on the pox that are open to protect them, but I can't remember what it is....
