Researchers at the University of New Mexico's Health Sciences Center believe they have found a way to make patients less fearful of needles — decorate them with butterflies, flowers and smiley faces.
Quote:
The researchers said the decorated needles can increase the quality of care when patients are less stressed.

Such decorations likely interfere with an established link between visual recognition of a perceived threat and the subsequent emotional response to that threat, the study suggested.

Needles, syringes and IV bags decorated with musical notes, flowers and smiley faces were highly favored by patients, the researchers said.

So much for carefree children skipping through fields of flowers chasing butterflies. Now they'll be running away when they see a butterfly and screaming like it's some horror film. For that matter one of my dd's is already terrified of butterflies, this decorated syringe would scare her the second she saw it.

WTF?! Are they kidding?!

I'm a "grown up" whos scared of needles.... And all I can say is, no matter how they dress up a needle, it's still a needle.

Thats like dressing up an elephant like a mouse. I DONT THINK SO.

Too bad it's not the needle you should be afraid of, but what's inside....Maybe that's where their focus should be?
