This seems like a no-brainer that sparkling juice would be a safe and fun alternative to wine or champagne over the holiday season, but my MIL said that it has nitrates in it? Does anyone know if this is indeed the case and if so if it makes it unsafe for us to drink on occasion? TIA!
Also, nitrate-free hotdogs or veggie-dogs are OK right?

I drink sparkling juice while pregnant, but then again, I don't worry too much about nitrates. I don't know whether sparkling juice has it or not. I would think nitrate-free hotdogs or veggie dogs are safe.

I buy plain sparkling water and add whatever fruit juice to it I'm in the mood for. Usually cranberry. Even my DH got off his soda/iced tea kick and has been drinking that as well. It's great because you can adjust the sweetness to your taste....
as far as nitrates.... I'd start with reading the label of whatever your drinking to see what's in it? But I've never heard of that.

Oh I drank sparkling juice while pregnant with my first two for special occasions. You're talking about the kind that comes in a wine bottle, right? I also drink the sparkling juice in a can- which is just juice and bubbly water. Heck I'll probably have half a glass of wine with dinner this year...
