So....bikini wax at 35 weeks?

OK so I've never had a bikini wax before, but given the state of affairs in the nether regions, I'm considering it. I called a spa and they said it takes about 3-4 weeks before you would need to have it done again (when it gets all itchy from growing out), which puts me around 38-39 weeks. Is it a bad idea to do it now with the possibility that I'll be giving birth just as things start to get uncomfortable down there again?

What are y'all doing, if anything, about the bikini area? It's not that I really care how it looks, but it is uncomfortable to have all that growth!

I mostly agree with you on this one. With my 2nd baby my midwife told me ahead of time that it isn't necessary to shave down there and she thought it was odd that so many women do that nowadays. She is originally from England, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Also, shaving reminds me of something that was routinely done by the nurses in the hospitals in years past, and seen as something degrading by some women...and now look, so many feel that they have to be bald down below.

I don't want to offend anyone, but felt I would chime in with the opposite view. And I hope no one is doing this because they think their health care providers will be grossed out by it. As long as it is clean, I don't think anyone cares how long it is.

I'm with you on many counts- I tried shaving once and didn't like the look, either. Strangely child-like and naked. I like the "modesty" of pubic hair

And as a former labour and delivery nurse, I can say that I have seen *everything* (including a little heart shaped shave) and that I really didn't care at all. And I've also seen horrible infected ingrown hairs from shaving that looked very painful!

I trim, influenced by years of swimming and a desire to keep my pubic hair inside my bathing suit. Lots of more competitive swimmers than me shave their arms, legs and everything, but I've never done a whole body shave in my life! I also liked my pubic hair a little trimmed after giving birth last time because it was easier to wash off the blood/lochia postpartum.

Smartycat, I partly agree with you.
I've been Brazillian'd once before we honeymooned in Mexico, and I don't think I'll ever go that far (hairless wise) again. I felt so so so sweaty down there with my thighs rubbing against new skin its not used to touching.
And personally I just feel sexier and more womanly with a little bit of hair there.

I also don't like too much hair though...I like it to be about 2cm long, and that way I don't get little white pieces of toilet paper stuck in there
: and it just feels cooler and cleaner.

I usually use scissors and a comb or hair clippers with a guard.

I just got done with my first waxing.
It went pretty smoothly.
I think I might have yelped out one time.
The waxer was great, the facility was great (cost $70 so it should be).
I have nothing to compare the sensitivity with, as this was my first waxing of any kind.
but I would say it definitely wasn't as bad as I'd imagined.

Oye! I dont' think i would do this now...I've done it before, several times, but for all the reasons people have mentioned, I wouldn't do it now. My friend (and esthetician) says it would hurt more to have it done now, and I've read that also. And I always get ingrowns....itchy, painful...not something I want to deal with now...and I think those would even be worse now because I tend to sweat more in that are right now...nope not for me right now!

I'm glad I've never been even a little interested in shaving that area, so it's one less thing to worry about! In the summer I trim the sides a bit for bathing suit reasons, but this time of year it can just grow for all I care!

Today I shaved my legs and trimmed "down there" and ohhhh how much better I feel. I didn't realize how much was there! And I didn't realize how difficult it really is to trim there...but I got it done pretty fast. Now I'm a new women and DH will appreciate it later.
Thanks for mentioning this topic...I"m not sure I would have thought about doing it at this stage...my mind tends to not work as well while pregnant!

So...I shaved my bikini area and legs today...

Let me just say that shaving your private parts while 8months pregnant should be an Olympic event.

Also, little nicks that normally wouldn't be an issue BLEED LIKE MAD right now. Ugh. DH better appreciate this

eh...I think however women want to look is up to them (even if I personally think they're nuts
). I can't do hair removal due to a HORRIBLE tendency to ingrown hairs and the fact that any of that (even trimming) seems to cause a shift in my very delicate ph balance and allow bacteria to triumph.

That's why I stopped.
There was just NO way I could do it anymore without cutting myself. And then I bled like s stuck pig. No fun. I'll resume the whole shaving routine (and surprise him
about the time I stop bleeding and we're ready to dtd again.
