Hello Ladies,

Violette Clare was born a week ago Sunday, on April 5th (40w 4d) after a terribly long and stressful labor. She was born at 5:44pm, was 6lbs 12oz and was 20" long. I've been absent from MDC and recovering (although I've posted some picts to Facebook after lots of requests!).

My labor started on Friday April 3rd (one day after my due date) and at the same time we were put under a blizzard warning.

My midwife got snowed in here in town, but at another client's house who delivered that night. The husband got her out the next day (Saturday afternoon) and she got to my house just before the wind picked up and the neighborhood got snowed in because of stuck cars.

By then, of course, my labor had stalled out...well I was still contracting every 8-10 mins and dilated to 4+, but I wasn't progressing. I was too stressed out!!!

I labored all day and night Saturday, but wasn't making much progress...

So on Sunday morning DH drove the kids six blocks to my mom's house, and got the van stuck twice...but did eventually make in back home. The mw told me that I had to get into my "mama cave", relax and trust my body to get back into labor. We also did some Castor oil and she stripped my membranes (I was at 5cm by then).

Labor got going around 11am and got bad about 3pm, so I got into the birthing pool. I was in transition for THREE hours (AHHHH!!!) and my water never did break.

Finally at 5:20pm I felt like pushing, but nothing was happening. My mw finally convinced me to get on my hands and knees in the pool (which I didn't want to...mostly I just wanted someone to pull the baby out for me...I was getting pretty tired by then) and in one push, my water broke as she was crowning and she was completely delivered!

My dh was so awesome!!! He held me, comforted me, and when I was hungry during transition, he went into the kitchen and made, from scratch, a chicken broth for me to drink between contractions. My mw and her assistant were so awesome and my sister was there, rotating hand holding and picture taking with dh.

It was my hardest, longest delivery...and I even needed 12 stitches...but I stayed completely relaxed between contractions and didn't "lose it", or scream or feel out of control for any part of the labor (except when she was crowning...I think I did scream a bit there). My other labors were so fast and scary and out of control...this one was longer, but much calmer.

By the time both baby and I were stable, the road was open and my mw was able to get back to Denver safely...she had been snowed in Cheyenne for two nights. I saved the newspaper headlines from the next day (12" of Snow and high winds, shut down city for two days) so I can put them in Violette's scrapbook.

What an adventure!

I guess it's time to change my sig line.

Thanks everybody!

We're bracing for another big storm....up to two feet just west of here, and they haven't settled on a snow fall prediction for us yet.

But you know what??? I don't care!!! Let it snow...my baby is delivered and all is quiet...I hope we get a dozie of a storm. Bring it on! LOL!!!

Welcome Violette and congrats mama! It snowed for our birthday too.
