Where will you be giving birth? With an OB or a Midwife? In a hospital, birthing center or home?

Will you have a doula?

The baby is due to arrive sometime around the beginning of April. We have an EDD of 4/2. I'm secretly hoping for a birth date of 4/5, so that baby will be cousin-twins with my nephew who was born on that day in 2005. I've been super lucky so far with this pregnancy and had very few problems. I've not had morning sickness (or any other time) and the only aversion I've come across is eggs (although I've had they hard-boiled no problem). My cravings change daily, but luckily have mostly been things like soup and not junk food. I've been worried lately about my lack of symptoms, but I have a MW appt. tomorrow morning, where I'll hopefully hear the heartbeat.

I will (: I don't risk out) be giving birth at a free-standing birth center here in Eugene, OR. Here's a virtual tour of one of the birth rooms. All the midwives at the center have admitting privileges at the local hospital and will attend your birth if you have to be transferred or risk out. I don't have a doula, but I'm super lucky because one of the midwives that practices at this center is my dear cousin, who will hopefully attend me at the baby's birth.

I grew up in Lincoln City, OR, a small town on the Oregon Coast. We have some of the most picturesque beaches around. We also have a casino and an outlet mall . Some people never see the beach when they visit. I moved to Eugene, OR to go to college at the UO and live here still. DH and I met in college and have a lot in common. We've been together 8 1/2 years. We both love music and play and write songs together. (Listen here) Tomorrow is our first wedding anniversary. We are playing an event today, so we plan on celebrating next weekend with a stay at the coast, where we were married. My favorite thing about DH is that he is the most moral man I have ever met. Sometimes it's painful for both of us, but he keeps me honest .

I have one brother (15 mos older), who has been married 8 1/2 years (DH met my family for the first time at my brother's wedding...poor DH ). He has two sons and a wife who I adore. My favorite childhood memory...my brother and I home alone on a summer day with Bill Cosby on the record player, laughing, rolling on the floor, tears in our eyes...listening to stories like "The Chicken Heart that Ate New York" and "Noah."

Wow. Congratulations and happy anniversary! I am glad ya'll get to celebrate!
That's so interesting that you play the banjo. I want to ask you what (make, model, lol) banjo do you play? I loved the song I heard on your link, we all love Old Crow Medicine Show in this family- they sound like an influence. And that is WAY cool that you guys are performing together! I hope there's a good turnout and ya'll have a great show today
I'm glad to "know" you better, kate.

Not in your DDC, but have been to Lincoln City in May '05 and it was sooo beautiful, but chilly! We stayed at the Spanish Inn, ate PHENOMENAL seafood at a local restaurant, then traveled to the Columbia Gorge and stayed at an adorable B&B with the most beautiful tulip blossom I've ever seen and EXCUISITE smoked trout. I will never forget it.

Ahhh...I may live in Texas but I think I left my heart in OR!

I play a Deering Goodtime 5 string banjo. It's definitely one of the less expensive models, but I love it.

I have to say Oregon is one of the most beautiful places I've been...I travel a lot for work and I'm never sorry to come home! Glad you loved it!

Who's your favorite celebrity?
Which Breakfast Club character would you have been in high school?
Your favorite food?
What's the worst and best thing that's ever happened to you?
If you had a superpower, what would it be?

Who's your favorite celebrity? I don't really like the concept of celebrity...I dunno...maybe Ralph Nader (currently reading the Seventeen Traditions).

Which Breakfast Club character would you have been in high school? I don't think there's an equivalent...nerdy, but not withdrawn like the dandruff girl...clownish...bookish...I'm not a big Breakfast Clubber...can someone tell me who it would be?

Your favorite food? I like food...a lot of it :

What's the worst and best thing that's ever happened to you? Jeez...the hard hitting questions. Best thing...meeting DH. Worst...maybe growing up and having bills?

superpower Something that allows instantaneous house cleaning

A couple of more "Eugene" questions, since I just moved away from there at the end of June...

Fave restaurant?

Which midwife is your cousin (maybe just initials... I worked as an L&D nurse at Sacred Heart, so know them all )

Fave place to spend a beautiful day off?

What did you study at the UofO?

"Guess what? It's a magical world. And when I sing, my songs are in it."

Fave restaurant...hmm...Lonches To Go burrito cart is my favorite cheap place and for more expensive, probably Evergreen indian food restaurant.

Emily Downing-Moore is my cousin...I've already got links to my myspace page and last name, so no big secrets.

Fave place to spend a day off...in my yard!

I studied Sociology at the UO.

My Husband, Nathan, our room mate Jake, and our cat, Ramses.

My typical day...Get up in the morning, drive Nathan to work...sometimes go into the office myself @ 8:30, sometimes come home and work on my independent contractor job. I work part time at a social research center in Eugene doing assessments with families and children. I also work for four juvenile justice attorneys and visit their clients who are children in the foster care system. So I do home visits (about 6 per week). Nathan gets off around 5:30 and we head home (if there aren't any evening commitments) and cook dinner, work in the garden and then play music. Generally that leaves a little time to read before bed. At some point I'm going to have to make time for sewing!

Congrats on your wedding anniversary!!!!

When and what made you decide that you were ready to have a baby (are we ever really ready lol?!?! - I'm another first timer so curious)?

Where did you move to Oregon (to go to school) from?

Are you close to your family and do they live nearby?

Where is the best place you have ever been to on vacation?

Congrats on your wedding anniversary!!!! Thanks

When and what made you decide that you were ready to have a baby (are we ever really ready lol?!?! - I'm another first timer so curious)? Well, we paid off a few bills and DH just turned 30 and I'm gettin' there. I've wanted kids for a long time, but we just weren't there yet...now we are...sorta

Where did you move to Oregon (to go to school) from? I've been here my whole life. Just moved from Lincoln City, OR to Eugene, OR to go to school

Are you close to your family and do they live nearby? I love my family. They still live in Lincoln City (about a 2.5 hour drive). The perfect distance

Where is the best place you have ever been to on vacation? DH and I honeymooned in Astoria, OR. I love it there, but the best thing was not having to worry about money too much (we had a lot of gift $) and eating out without guilt, antique shopping, thrift stores, etc.

Nathan (DH) is a preschool teacher .

I've been all over the country (Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Ohio, Iowa, Missouri, Texas, Arizona, Idaho, California, Washington, Montana) mostly for work. I think my favorite was Butte, Montana......or maybe St. Louis.

Well, I really can't sleep in anymore because my stomach wakes me up with the growling . I normally have to get up and take DH to work about 8:15, so I scheduled my MW appt for 8:30 this morning...then DH informed me on Friday he'd taken the day off for our anniversary, so I had to get up anyway. I figure the midwives are fresher at that hour, anyway, right?

The appointment was awesome....my blood sugar and blood pressure were fabulous and I've only gained 3 lbs...right on track!

And I got to hear the baby's heart beat ::!! It was so awesome! 155 bpm and there was a lot of static in between the beating and the mw said it was because the baby is really active . DH totally missed out staying home in bed:. To be fair, he's been sick and not sleeping well. I scheduled my screening ultrasound for 19 weeks at the beginning of November.: We'll find out the sex then!

Thanks for all your great, thoughtful questions!

Yay congrats on the awesome appointment!! I figured that's where you were Isn't the sound of the heartbeat incredible! That's good to know that all that static and swooshing is prob the baby moving around. Yay for you Kate!!
