My stepson is 19 and has been living at his fathers house with his stepmother, and my step daughter who visits with us every other week told us that he was no longer living at their house and had broken back in at some point and stoled my step daughters cash of $400.00 and his step mothers jewelry. From what we know (my wife, their mother) is that their not pressing charges and then we here that my sister in-law received a call from my step son and admitted to the stealing and is living on the streets. My step son has been in detention as a minor for stealing and using drugs and as far as we know he is no longer on probation, however the question that comes to mine is... if charges are not pressed against him and he commits another crime such as this outside of his home are the parents of my step son held liable to the parties that are the victims of his crimes since charges were not pressed initially to take him off the streets? His father is also a practicing Attorney in the State of California where my step son resides.
