Hello i am expecting to be a new mother in January and have high blood pressure. My meds before i became pregnant were hctz/lisnopril but i discontinued the meds because of the instructions on the medicine description told me to do so. My pcp called in atenolol 50mg which is a lot of mg i think to much to prescribe someone whom you have no seen and is pregnant. Today was my first appointment and the OB had no idea what the meds were that i was on for the bp, but he wanted me to take the meds and bring them on the next visit. I did as he instructed and started experiencing a jurking feeling in the inside of my navel that startled me a little. I was already bleeding lightly from the exam. Should i be worried?

I am so sorry you are going through this, I was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes when i was pregnant. This surprised me because I eat very well (always have), I have Celiac's disease, I grow and eat a lot of my own food, and what i don't grow i buy organic. This said I was very taken aback. I saw a nutritionist and followed her meal ideas for a while, then one day as i was walking back from our garden everything went white and i almost passed out. At that moment (luckily my husband was with me) I decided not to follow the nutritional advice i had been given. I no longer took my blood glucose tests (after every meal and in the morning).

My baby boy was born healthy with an apgar score of 9.9 the fear with GD is you might have a baby that is overweight from the start. My boy was 6lbs 2oz, Maybe a little small(but so are his father and I) he was not premie so he was fine and he is now 11 months and only got mildly sick once.

I tell you all this because I don't believe doctors ALWAYS know what their talking about, which is clear from your post, as your physician was unfamiliar with the meds you were prescribed. Any doctor will tell you that you should not stop taking any medication without talking to them, Also, for many medications a doctor prescribes they will get a monetary  commission for the prescription. Just telling you to be careful.

One last note. I am no doctor, but i do know a lot about herbal medicines, If i were you i would not take any pharmecudical medicine during my pregnancy(Though if you want some tips for relaxation or relaxing herbs  i would love to help)

Hope all goes well, I believe a mother can feel what is right for her body please contact me if you want some herbal info.

My BP crept up in my last trimester and hypnobabies relaxation stuff always brought it down a good 10 points. They have a free relaxation sample one https://www.hypnobabies.com/free-mp3

Atenolol is a class D drug, it's just as bad as lisinopril in pregnancy. I'd get another doctor asap. I'd discontinue the drug and monitor my BP in the meantime too.

As high blood pressure specifically in pregnancy is an issue that many OB/GYNs are familiar with, can you discuss with your OB/GYN the possibility of being the doctor to also monitor/help control your blood pressure issues? That might help with ensuring that drugs prescribed for your blood pressure are also safe for pregnancy. That aside, I might also suggest contacting the pharmacist, who should know about conflicts/complications of drugs and be able to better advise you on what your risks are for taking what you have been prescribed in pregnancy, as the pharmacist should know more specifically about the drug than the doctors will.

That's so exciting about hearing your baby's heartbeat for the first time, I think for me that's when it really sunk in that their was a little person inside me.

So as far as herbs go do you want some thing to help with relaxiation? because once relaxed every thing seems easier.

Chamomile,(in a tea form is calming and can help you sleep)  Lavender is great just to smell but can also be used in the essential oil form as well as Geranium and Rose

30 drops per 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Any or all of these for a back rub will really help you relax and can also help with back pain.

Another way you can use them (less messy & and you can get more of the aromatherapy aspect) is to take a bath (pregnant women should use only 2-4 drops of essential oil in a bath) I suggest that if your new to this whole using essential oils thing LESS is more. then you can jugde for yourself if you want more, still no more than 4 drops though.

An important reminder essential oils are very strong, never put them directly on the skin, especially if pregnant (although the ones i mentioned are safer ones to use, i would still avoid it)Tell me if this helps:)
