I found these forums last night while searching for homebirth trauma. I'm Mel from Australia, and I have 6 beautiful DC aged 7-0. I had my last little one in a planned homebirth just Tuesday. It was my 5th homebirth. I'm a crunchy Christian and we breastfeed, co-sleep and cloth-diaper. We live in a country town which is pretty conservative. They were shocked when we moved out here intending on having a homebirth!
I found this birth very tough compared to the others. She was posterior, though neither the midwife or I picked it up. Pushing was awful and took hours as she kept turtle necking, whereas normally I can just use gravity to sway the baby out. I tore for the first time since my hospital birth and am as sore as a first time mother! I've been really down about it since the birth and keep thinking that I should have known that she was malpositioned and it must have been my fault for not doing enough to get her the right way. I had thought she would be my last baby and was hoping for another beautiful birth but the reality was that it was painful and I was terrified. Everything is going well with her though, she was never stressed and my milk is coming in now on day 2.
Welcome horsegal! Sorry to hear your birth didn't go quite as easily as you'd expected. I'm sure lots of mamas here can relate. And welcome to your sweet new babe
